We are excited to announce the release of v1.0 of Gridstone’s Excel Add-in.  Our users can now leverage the power of our platform’s deep financial data directly in Excel.  We’ve made it especially easy-to-use and intuitive for users of all skill levels, reflecting our commitment to increasing investments analysts’ productivity.

Some key features of the Add-in are:

Download Data

The download worksheet function makes it easy to pull not only financial statement information, but also operating metrics, segment, product and geography breakouts, into Excel, within seconds.  Why spend hours (or even days) collecting and inputting raw data into an earnings model when you can download this information in seconds?  Why be overwhelmed during earnings season, updating models with new data, when our formulas can populate models with newly published information with the click of a button?

Easy-to use formulas

All of the Gridstone platform data can be pulled into Excel using a simple and intuitive formula that requires only three variables:  ticker, parameter, and financial period.  We’ve also provided an intuitive formula editing screen with a lookup feature to give users quick access to all of the relevant information.

Verify Data and View Commentary

The View Source/Commentary function makes it effortless to verify the source of any number, or to view Management’s commentary around a number.  Now users can click-through directly to the number in the source document, or read management’s comments, without ever leaving Excel.

Resolve Error

Another unique feature of the Gridstone Add-in is the ability to resolve formula errors. In a system with hundreds of company-specific parameters, a user may occasionally enter the wrong parameter name. In this example, the incorrect parameter “iPod” is highlighted as the source of the error; the resolve error function provides the user with suggested iPod-related parameters that would return a valid data point.

These are just some of the highlights of the new Gridstone Excel Add-in.  We are looking forward to working with our clients to integrate this powerful new tool directly into their workflow, freeing them up to focus on more productive activity. Over the next few posts, we’ll also write about some ways in which a user could leverage the power of our Add-in.
