Top left on the Company Landing Page is the Business Description. Reading the Business Description delivers a condensed introduction to a company, its core business lines, products and recent material events. Clients can use the Business Description for an introduction to a new company, filling in the blanks since the last review and enabling greater focus prior to a deep “data dive.”

Results at a glance

One challenge analysts face is rapidly assimilating companies’ financial results yet understanding some of the nuances unique to a company. In Financial and Operating Results, we are presenting a standardized, abbreviated set of financial statements combined with our proprietary set of Operational Metrics. The use of standardized data is designed to complement the rich, “As Reported” data in the Gridstone Research platform. This gives clients a uniform view of companies along with hand selected, company specific data. For example, in the Telefonica SA (TEF: NYSE) Financial and Operating Results illustrated below, we see that TEF is delivering year over year and sequential growth in Operating and Net Income but flattish to down Average Revenue per Wireless subscriber. If an analyst wants to conduct a deeper level of analysis utilizing the complete Gridstone Research data set, links to our Quickviews are included underneath the table.

The trend is your friend

We have also included an 8 period chart for all companies illustrating trends in revenue, gross margin, operating margin and net margin - the basic business parameters of a company. Below, we see that Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTSH: NASDAQ) has grown revenue in a linear fashion in the last 8 reported quarters while maintaining stable margins. Using this simple graph, the basic growth, linearity, volatility and consistency of a company’s income and profitability is easily seen.

Competitive landscape

An important element in understanding a company is its competitive footing. Our Competition feature gives users a view into how company’s business model and financial position stacks up against its competitors. Similar to the Financial and Operating Results, we are using an abbreviated, standardized financial statement in the most recently reported period to deliver a ‘snapshot’ perspective of the competitive landscape. And of course, if an analyst wants to conduct a deeper analysis, we also provide a link to a multi-company comps builder.

Keeping up with current events

Just keeping abreast of companies’ progress is a challenge. Our Events and Documents feature provides information in a central location that is sortable for easy access to relevant documents. Consistent with the Gridstone Research philosophy, our objective is to make information readily accessible so our users spend as little time as possible hunting for documents thereby maximizing their time conducting analysis on company fundamentals.
